Universities across Europe are increasingly welcoming students from diverse cultural, linguistic, and social backgrounds. Among them are Ukrainian students who have continued their education abroad following the challenges created by the ongoing war. While universities have made significant efforts to support these students, academic staff and tutors often require additional training to effectively address their specific needs.

To respond to this challenge, the UkraStud project has developed an innovative Online Course for University Tutors and Professors. The course provides flexible, accessible, and practice-oriented learning opportunities designed to strengthen the competencies of academic staff working with Ukrainian and other international students.

A Digital Learning Experience for Higher Education Professionals

The UkraStud Online Course has been designed as a comprehensive professional development resource that can be accessed anytime and from anywhere. By using modern e-learning methodologies, the course allows participants to engage with content at their own pace while balancing their academic and professional responsibilities.

The course combines educational theory with practical applications, enabling participants to acquire knowledge that can be immediately transferred to real-life university settings. This flexible approach makes continuous professional development more accessible for busy academic staff members.

Learning Modules Focused on Student Inclusion

The course consists of six thematic modules addressing key aspects of student support and inclusion. Participants will have the opportunity to explore topics such as:

  • Psychological well-being and emotional support;
  • Academic success and student engagement;
  • Managing critical situations and student vulnerabilities;
  • Social inclusion and intercultural communication;
  • European values and identity;
  • Student satisfaction and quality of university services.

These topics reflect the real challenges faced by tutors and academic staff when supporting students in increasingly diverse university environments.

Interactive and Engaging Educational Resources

To maximize learning effectiveness, the course includes a variety of digital resources and interactive learning tools. Participants can benefit from:

  • Expert-led video lectures;
  • Interactive H5P learning activities;
  • Practical case studies;
  • Scenario-based exercises;
  • Knowledge assessments;
  • Micro-credential opportunities.

The interactive scenarios are particularly valuable because they simulate authentic situations that tutors may encounter while supporting students. Through these exercises, participants can develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills in a safe learning environment.

Lifelong Learning for Academic Excellence

Professional development is becoming increasingly important in higher education. The rapid internationalization of universities requires academic staff to continuously update their knowledge and competencies.

The UkraStud Online Course contributes to lifelong learning by offering a structured and evidence-based training programme that supports both personal and professional growth. The course encourages participants to reflect on their own practices and adopt innovative approaches to student support.

Looking Toward a More Inclusive Future

The online learning opportunities created through the UkraStud project represent an important investment in the future of higher education. By empowering tutors and academic staff with new skills and knowledge, universities can create more inclusive, supportive, and student-centred learning environments.

As the course becomes available to participants across partner countries, it is expected to contribute significantly to improving the educational experiences of Ukrainian students and strengthening institutional capacities for inclusion throughout Europe.
