The exchange of good practices is one of the key strengths of international cooperation in higher education. By sharing experiences, approaches, and institutional solutions, universities can learn from each other and develop more effective ways to support students and create inclusive academic environments.

Within the Erasmus+ project UkraStud, partner institutions from different European countries contribute their knowledge and experience in supporting students, particularly those facing challenges related to academic transition, integration, and adaptation to a new educational and social environment.

Throughout the project, partners have shared examples of existing support systems and educational practices implemented within their institutions. These exchanges provide valuable insights into different approaches to student wellbeing, academic success, social inclusion, and participation in university life.

An excellent example of a comprehensive student support approach is provided by Ștefan cel Mare University of Suceava, which has developed a wide range of initiatives designed to support students throughout their academic journey. The university’s support model combines academic guidance, social integration activities, and services aimed at improving students’ overall wellbeing.

Among the practices presented are:

  • tutoring and mentoring systems supporting students in their academic development;
  • language support activities facilitating communication and integration;
  • accommodation support and assistance with adapting to university life;
  • academic mentorship initiatives, including the “Adopt a Freshman” programme;
  • remedial education opportunities helping students overcome academic challenges;
  • psychological counselling and wellbeing support;
  • health and sport activities promoting a balanced student lifestyle;
  • extracurricular activities encouraging social interaction and a sense of belonging.

This holistic approach demonstrates the importance of looking at student support from a broader perspective — not only through academic assistance but also through social, emotional, and personal development opportunities.

The exchange of practices among UkraStud partners highlights that there is no single model for supporting students. Instead, each institution contributes unique experiences and solutions that can inspire and strengthen approaches across Europe. Through collaboration, universities can adapt successful practices to their own contexts and continue improving support systems for diverse student communities.
