Universities across Europe are increasingly facing the challenge of supporting Ukrainian students affected by war, displacement, academic disruption, and social uncertainty. Within this context, the Erasmus+ project UkraStud is developing practical strategies and institutional frameworks designed to strengthen student support, inclusion, and academic integration in higher education environments.

Through international cooperation and research-based approaches, the project focuses on helping universities create more accessible, supportive, and student-centred academic communities where Ukrainian students can successfully continue their educational journey.

One of the key priorities of the project is improving the transition and integration process by offering structured support systems that respond both to academic and personal challenges faced by students.

The guidelines developed within UkraStud highlight several important areas of intervention, including:

  • career planning and employability support;
  • mentoring and academic guidance;
  • language support for the labour market;
  • internship and professional networking opportunities;
  • prevention of social isolation;
  • psychological wellbeing and trauma-informed support practices.

The project also underlines the importance of early support and continuous monitoring of student wellbeing. Universities are encouraged to develop coordinated systems involving career centres, counselling services, academic staff, mentors, international offices, and peer-support initiatives in order to provide timely and effective assistance to students.

Special attention is given to creating safe and inclusive learning environments where students feel respected, supported, and encouraged to participate actively in university life. The developed protocols promote: intercultural dialogue; psychological safety; equal opportunities; flexibility in learning and communication; access to institutional support services.

Another important aspect addressed by the project is employability and long-term academic integration. The guidelines support students in understanding local labour markets, preparing professional application documents, developing interview skills, and building professional networks that can facilitate future employment opportunities.

By combining academic inclusion, psychological wellbeing, and career development, UkraStud promotes a holistic approach to student support and contributes to the development of more resilient and inclusive higher education systems across Europe.
