Inclusion in higher education is not achieved through isolated actions. It requires cooperation, shared knowledge, practical tools, and a commitment to creating academic environments in which every student can participate, learn, and thrive. The UkraStud project brings together six organisations from five countries: Italy, Romania, Türkiye, Croatia, and Ukraine. Through this international partnership, universities and educational experts have worked together to address the challenges faced by Ukrainian university students and to strengthen inclusive approaches within higher education.

The project combines research, training, guidelines, and dissemination. Its three main objectives are to define a model of inclusion for Ukrainian students, strengthen the competences of university tutors and academic staff, and support the development and adoption of common guidelines for inclusion.

A central strength of UkraStud is the connection between evidence and practice. The project includes research involving a sample of at least 300 Ukrainian university students, an online course for tutors, and guidelines and protocols designed to support universities in developing more inclusive practices.

These resources are intended not only for the organisations directly involved in the project, but also for universities, tutors, academic staff, student associations, policymakers, researchers, professional organisations, and other stakeholders interested in inclusive higher education. The project therefore places strong emphasis on making its results accessible and encouraging their adoption beyond the consortium.

The European dimension of UkraStud is particularly important. The six participating organisations bring different experiences of student support, tutoring, international cooperation, and inclusion. Comparing these approaches makes it possible to identify strengths, challenges, and opportunities for improving support for Ukrainian students across different higher education contexts.

The project also seeks to create connections beyond higher education. Its synergy plan is designed to encourage the transfer and adaptation of project results to schools, vocational education and training, adult education, youth, and sport. 

Cooperation becomes meaningful when knowledge is shared and transformed into action. For this reason, UkraStud’s dissemination strategy includes a dedicated website, social media communication, newsletters, press releases, promotional videos, and international and national events. The project also places particular emphasis on an invitation to action: people and organisations discovering UkraStud results are encouraged to download the resources, consider how they can be used in their own context, and promote their wider adoption.

Educational cooperation therefore becomes more than an exchange of information. It becomes a way to build stronger networks, improve institutional practices, and contribute to more inclusive academic communities.
